Ruth Kersey Showalter

Ruth Kersey Showalter, 90, died Thursday, March 17, 2011 at home after a long illness under the care of Spanish Oaks Hospice and surrounded by her family. Mrs. Showalter was born May 28, 1920 on Johns Island, Indian River County, Florida, the youngest child of the oldest living Pioneers of Indian River County. She attended Vero Beach Florida schools graduating first in her class and the state of Florida at the age of fourteen. She modeled for Burdines Clothiers and the Stetson Hat Company out of Palm Beach Florida and the McKee Jungle Gardens in Fort Pierce, Florida.
Mrs. Showalter was one of the first female Aviators in Chatham County and a longtime owner of Nannette's Beauty Salon. She was a parishioner of Saint James Catholic Church.
Mrs. Showalter was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Henry Showalter.
She is survived by a daughter, Pamela S. DeLoach and son-in-law, J. Pearson DeLoach, a grandson, John Charles DeLoach Robin R., two great-grandsons, John Brandon and Robert Tristan DeLoach, and her faithful caregiver, Bernitha Vaughn, all of Savannah.
The family will receive friends from 5:00 to 6:00 p.m. at Fox and Weeks Funeral Directors, Hodgson Chapel with at Rosary Service at 6:00 p.m., Friday, March 18, 2011.
There will be a private funeral and burial service.
Remembrances may be made to Spanish Oaks Hospice, St. James Catholic School, or Benedictine Military School.
